Self Hosted WordPress Blog – A Video Showing How To Install WordPress

WordPress is SEO friendly and easy to use. You can either use it as a blog or create pages that you would see on a traditional site. It’s really easy to do once you know how.

When you use a self hosted WordPress blog you have complete control over your blog, and no one can shut you down unexpectedly.

Getting a WordPress blog up and running on your own domain is simple.

Here are step by step instructions to install a WordPress blog using using Fantastico

  1. Register a domain name at GoDaddy.com Choose something that clearly reflects what your blog is about.
  2. Go to HostGator to buy hosting for your domain. I recommend you use HostGator because you can get started for a few dollars a month, it’s reliable, gives excellent 365 support, and it has an automatic install feature that makes it easy to set up your blog. http://lynnelee.com/hostgator
  3. Go back to GoDaddy.com and change the domain name servers (DNS) to those that HostGator gave you in your welcome email. Once you have logged into your GoDaddy.com account you’ll be able to easily change the Name Servers.

This connects your domain name to your hosting company so that you have an address on the web that people can find. It may take a few hours for the change to broadcast across the web so that people can see your site when they type in your domain name.

Once your domain name is propagated, you can install your WordPress blog. You need to log into your web hosting control panel which you can access by going to www.yourdomain.com/cpanel. Once you are logged in simply scroll down and click on Fantastico.

Then click on WordPress under the Blogs section on the left and follow the simple instructions to install your blog. Your blog will be live in a few minutes.

  1. I have a Blogger blog that is hooked up to my personal website. The actual blog is linked off of the homepage. I would like to know if there’s a widget or something that I can put on my website’s homepage that will show my latest blog posts. Not the whole post, but maybe just the headline and a link to go to my blog..

  2. As far a I know you’ll need a WordPress blog as the foundation of your personal site if you want to use widgets. You should be able to get code from Feedburner that will enbale you to display your RSS feed on your site so you can show headlines from your Blogger blog.
